Dude. Lombok just changed the game for me. 🙌

Okay — so I’ve surfed a bunch of spots around Indo, but nothing prepared me for what I found in Lombok. Like, why is no one screaming this from the rooftops?! This place is blowing up for all the right reasons, and I kinda want to keep it secret... but also I can’t stop talking about it.

I got off the plane, half-asleep and sticky from too many hours without AC, and boom — that first warm breeze hit different. June in Lombok is straight-up magic. Dry season = pumping swell, offshore winds, and bluebird skies every dang day.

First spot I hit? Gerupuk. 6:15 AM — just as the sun peeked over the hills, casting golden light across the mellow bay. The lineup had maybe 10 people in it. Ten! Not fifty like Canggu on a Tuesday morning. I was floating out there just thinking… this, this is it.

That moment hit when I paddled into my first wave — shoulder-high, glassy perfection that peeled just long enough to make me feel like I was starring in my own surf film. And guess what? No drop-in dramas. Just hoots from a couple of locals and another Aussie traveler I met that morning who said, “You picked the right time to come, mate.” Yep. He was right.

Why This Is One of the Most Viral Lombok Indonesia Spots Right Now 👀

Lombok’s starting to trend hard on TikTok and Insta right now — but not for the wild beach clubs like Bali. It’s those dreamy drone shots over Selong Belanak, the clean reef setups at Mawi, and that raw jungle-meets-ocean vibe that makes Lombok feel untouched. It's basically influencer-nirvana mixed with serious wave potential.

Plus, ride-sharing doesn’t really exist here, so most people grab scooters with board racks. It gives everything a more grassroots, DIY energy. I ended up booking a week at a surf camp near Kuta Lombok (the good Kuta — not the overbuilt Bali version), and it was the best decision ever. They sorted transport, coaching, and even filmed our sessions for feedback nights (and, let’s be real, brag-worthy content).

But here’s the INSIDE TIP no one told me about: Ekas Bay. It’s a bit off the beaten path — like, legit dirt roads and questionable turns kind of mission — but once you get there… oh man. Empty waves and perfect lefts, plus a fish curry shack run by a barefoot legend named Wayan. Best $2 meal I’ve ever had.

Real Talk: Crowds Still Freak Me Out 😅

Okay so confession — I’m decent in overhead stuff, love a solid drop, but my kryptonite? Busy lineups. After living in the deep south of NZ where it’s just me and some mates sharing the break, getting swarmed in a peak freaks me out.

In Bali a few years ago, I literally bailed on a pumping session at Uluwatu because I couldn’t deal. But here in Lombok? I actually felt chilled. The surf guides showed us spots based on the tide and swell, and we often had them nearly to ourselves. That combo of local knowledge + less hype = pure bliss.

There was this one sketchy moment tho — tried to solo a scooter mission to Bangko-Bangko (Desert Point), got lost, accidentally drove INTO a rice paddy (don’t ask), and ended up following a goat for 20 minutes before finding the road again. Did I make it to Desert Point? Nope. But did I laugh for an hour and then find a random beach with baby turtles? Also yes.

How It Made Me Feel 💛

I’ve never felt more present. Surfing here made me fall in love with paddling again, with watching the sun rise from the water, with meeting strangers who become insta-friends after one set wave traded.

And the BEST part?

I checked out FlyLombok.id before my last surf and holy game-changer. Their aerial views showed breaks I totally missed from eye level — like secret coves that only pop on low tide or reef setups tucked behind headlands. Planning my solo week now using their drone footage. So stoked.

If you're tossing up between Sri Lanka and Lombok for your next surf escape... go Lombok. Trust me.

📍 Under-the-radar vibes. 🌊 World-class waves. 🛼 No scooter traffic madness. 🌅 Sunrise sessions you'll dream about for ages.
